Venue: MIMA Seminar Room, Kuala Lumpur
As part of the GEF/UNDP regional initiative on Scaling Up the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA), PEMSEA is working with Country and Non-Country Partners on the development of regional and national State of Oceans and Coasts (SOC) reports, with a focus on blue economy. This effort is in line with the Changwon Declaration Toward an Ocean-based Blue Economy: Moving Ahead with the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA 2012), and the Da Nang Compact on the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA 2015). In particular, Target 2 of the four strategic time-bound targets in the Da Nang Compact refers to a regional SOC Report as a mechanism for monitoring and reporting progress for SDS-SEA implementation.
This meeting aims to discuss the following areas:
(a) scope and draft outline of the SOC Report;
(b) gaps in the initial assessment of ocean economy and ocean health;
(c) related ongoing and past programs and projects, and available information; and
(d) possible drafting of a work plan towards achieving the set aims.
DATE AND VENUE
The discussion will be held at MIMA’s Seminar Room on 22 September 2016.
