The Track II Network of ASEAN Defence and Security Institutions (NADI) Workshop on Evaluating ASEAN Defence and Security Initiatives with Dialogue Partners

15-16 August 2017, Kuala Lumpur

The Workshop, organised by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MiDAS) in conjunction with NADI’s 10th Anniversary, was chaired by  Lieutenant General Dato' Suhaimi bin Mohd Zuki, the Chief Executive of MiDAS.

This workshop brought together ASEAN Heads of Delegations (NADI members) and their staffs from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. The workshop covered a comprehensive agenda of interesting topics relating to defence and security initiatives, especially on cyber security, counter-terrorism, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

MIMA, Director General, First Admiral (Retired) Dato’ Chin Yoon Chin, was the Keynote Presenter for the workshop. He highlighted the need for periodic strategic assessments on the roles, achievements, overall objectives, and the deliverables of ADMM and ADMM plus. He further alluded the significant achievements of ASEAN and Plus members on maritime security matters.

He also articulated that ASEAN should play a major role in ensuring the continued peace and stability of the ASEAN region and suggested a road map for ADMM and ADMM Plus. He ended by congratulating ASEAN on its 50th Anniversary and NADI for its role in contributing to ASEAN defence and security issues.
