Visit from the Embassy of Viet Nam & The Central Commission for Communication and Education of Viet Nam

MIMA welcomed a delegation from the Viet Nam Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Central Commission for Communication and Education of Viet Nam to exchange views and strengthen ties on research particularly on South China Sea issues.
During the meeting
Among others, the meeting discussed the institutional set-up and mechanism for cooperation between the two parties. Discussions also focused on sharing some of the past, current and potential future collaborations that can be established by the research institutions in Viet Nam with MIMA. Other areas such as opportunities for exchange of expertise, as well as joint programmes, and the sharing of publications/ outcomes were emphasised on.
The meeting dwelt on various areas of importance in the South China Sea, including sustainable development and management of the marine environment and resources protection
Some of the mutual views and perspectives that came out from the discussion includes the development of sustainable blue economies in the region and respective maritime sectors of importance to both the countries, as well as the need to adhere to the rule of international law to safeguard the environment and resources in the South China Sea and peaceful dispute settlements in the region.

Overall, the meeting agreed to move forward suggestions from the discussions towards greater collaborative efforts between the two parties.
