Visit by Centre des Hautes Etudes de ’Armement Nationale (CHEAR) , France

The Maritime Institute of Malaysia received delegation from the Centre des Hautes Etudes de Armement  Nationale (CHEAR) , France on  27 February 2017. The CHEAR is an institution under the Prime Minister of France’s purview (IHEDN) and is in charge to provide insight into strategic issues pertaining to France’s national defence and security interests, both in France and abroad. The delegation comprised both civilian and military personnel.

MIMA Director General First Admiral (R) Dato Chin Yoon Chin received the delegation headed by Ms Nicole Chaix, Senior Lecturer at Panthéon-Assas University.  Colonel Jean-Francois Schoonmann, Defence Attaché Embassy of France also accompanied the team from CHEAR.

The French delegation were briefed on maritime issues including the recent developments in South China Sea, U.S- China Relations and piracy in Southeast Asia, the visit ended with an exchange of views on the issues presented which provided another opportunity for MIMA to renew the MIMA- France relations on security matters.
