27 August – 7 September 2018
Yeosu, South Korea

The Yeosu Academy of the Law of the Sea, an initiative that is part of the Yeosu Project that inherited the spirit of EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea and the Yeosu Declaration, provides education and training on ocean affairs to facilitate developing states in addressing their maritime challenges.

The 39 representatives from 28 countries at this two-week programme comprised staff of international organizations, government officials, researchers engaged in ocean policy-making, and professors and graduate students interested in ocean affairs. During the programme they were exposed to contemporary law of the sea and critical international and regional ocean-related issues. President Jin-Hyun Paik, Judge and President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), Professor Ted McDorman, Law Professor at the University of Victoria, Mr Robert Volterra, one of the world’s top public international law practitioners, and other law professors as well as international experts were invited to speak on related topics.
