BIT’s 7th Annual World Congress of Ocean – 2018 (WCO-2018)

29 – 31 October 2018

MIMA highlighted Malaysia’s maritime industries at the above conference which was jointly organised by the China Association of Oceanic Engineering, China Institute of Navigation, China Fisheries Association, and Weihai Marine & Fishery Bureau.

Themed ‘Co-building Smart Ocean, Co-building Ecological Civilisation,’ the event brought together scientific leaders from China and abroad as well as scholars and business executives to discuss ocean economy, law, energy, modern technologies, ship and ocean engineering,  marine protection, oceanography, and marine biology.

MIMA researcher Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) presented on ‘Maritime Industries in Malaysia as a Complete Cluster’ which provided an overview of Malaysia’s maritime industries in transportation, oil and gas, fisheries and aquaculture, and cruise and coastal tourism. He also spoke on the future challenges faced by these sectors in the context of the fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0).

The conference was organised into nine forums representing different fields in maritime industries. In the forum on Ocean Economy & Sustainability Development, Cdr Ang was the co-chair to Mrs Charlottee Ahrendt Steen of the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA). Speakers during the session were from China, Egypt, Fiji, South Africa, and South Korea.

MIMA wishes to express its appreciation to the organisers for the opportunity to showcase Malaysia’s maritime industries and interact with international experts and scholars on maritime industries.
