Program at MIMA, Kuala Lumpur

MIMA received a Thailand delegation from the Graduate School of Chulalongkorn University’s Maritime Administration Program. They were a band of 7 faculty members and 17 students, led by the Director of the Program, Associate Professor Pramot Sojisuporn. The purpose of the visit was to enhance their experience and vision of maritime affairs and administration, as well as to expand their maritime network within ASEAN countries. Besides visiting MIMA, the delegation also visited the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Port Klang.
In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Pramot Sojisuporn expressed his gratitude to MIMA for the opportunity to share their perspective in maritime issues pertaining to Southeast Asia. He later provided information about the programmes offered by the Graduate School. Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R), senior researcher from the Centre for Maritime Economics and Industries briefed the delegation about the chronology of MIMA’s establishment, while Capt. Martin A. Sebastian (R), the Centre Head for Maritime Security and Diplomacy distinguished between MIMA and university functions.
In the Question and Answer session, both delegates and MIMA researchers discussed the confluence of Southeast Asia’s maritime interests, as well as current issues in the trade war between China and the United States impacting industries in Malaysia and the region.
The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs from both institutions. MIMA looks forward to collaborations and further exchange of views on maritime issues with the Graduate School Chulalongkorn University in the future.
