The Vietnam Port Development Conference 2019 (VPDC 2019) was held from 26 to 27 June 2019. It aimed to enhance the efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability of Vietnam’s Seaport System Development. The event was conducted to discuss the achievements and improvements needed and the way forward for the nation’s seaport system development.

The organiser had invited local and international speakers who were experts in ports and shipping with the aim to strengthen connections among governments and port authorities with port operators, shipping lines, equipment manufacturers, solution providers, investors, consultants, and business associations. MIMA Senior Researcher, Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) was invited to speak, and he presented a paper on Sustainable Ports Development in Southeast Asia.

His presentation highlighted the performance of ports and shipping in Southeast Asia, the sustainable issues in ports developments and indicators on how to improve port productivity. His presentation attracted many enquiries from participants, especially Vietnam port officials and experts who wished to learn from Malaysia’s maritime industry.

Besides seaports, the development of inland waterways, dry ports, and domestic logistic networks were also discussed, where about 100 industry leaders and senior executives were in attendance. The various speakers were from the host country as well as abroad, including Bangladesh, India, Germany, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore.
