The 2nd International Workshop on Logistics

Logistics and transport experts from the region recently gathered to discuss the enhancement of competency in the two industries recently. The 2nd International Workshop on Logistics: Project on Enhancing Competence of Japan-Mekong Region brought experts from the Japan Transport Cooperation Association (JTCA), as well as ASEAN and CLMV countries. Organisers Vietnam Maritime University (VMU) and the Japan-ASEAN Cooperation (JAIF) had also extended a kind invitation to Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R), Senior Researcher of MIMA as a representative from Malaysia.

The two-day workshop was held at the VMU, themed “Situation and Solutions to Develop the Logistics Connection Network and Multimodal Transport in CLMV and the Region”. The event was graced by Le Tuan Anh, Director-General of International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Transport in Vietnam. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Dong, VMU President, and Tomoyuki Fukuhara, Deputy Director of Office of Counsellor for International Logistics, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan both delivered special remarks.

The workshop comprised of three sessions featuring Prof. Keiji Habara from Kobe University who discussed the topic of “Risk Management System on Logistics”, Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc from VMU about the “Current Situation of Vietnam Transport Sector- Attempt for Smooth Connection to Neighbouring Countries”, and Somsak Wisetruangrot on the “Development of Cross Border Transport in the GMS Sub-region”.

During the sessions, participants from CMLV countries presented the logistics, transportation, and freight forwarding performance of their respective countries. Representing Malaysia, Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) highlighted the rapid economic growth in Southeast Asia and the importance of having a lead country in ASEAN for a logistics connection network and multimodal transport.

At the workshop, participants were also given opportunities to tour the Japan-Mekong Regional Logistics Training Centre in Hai Phong, and the logistic centre in Quang Ninh Province.

MIMA expresses its appreciation to the VMU and the Japan-ASEAN Cooperation for inviting MIMA to the workshop for an exchange of views with logistics and transport experts.
