MIMA-Asia Foundation Virtual Meeting on EAMF

The Centre for Straits of Malacca (SOM) conducted an online discussion with Benjamin Zawacki, from the Asia Foundation, Bangkok.

The discussion focused on issues of regional security and cooperation, primarily on the Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum’s (EAMF) history, processes, meetings, agendas, as well as substantive priorities.

The first EAMF meeting was held in Manila, the Philippines, on 5 October 2012. It was attended by government and non-government delegates from the ten ASEAN Member States and ASEAN counterparts. The objective was to encourage a dialogue on opportunities and address common challenges on maritime issues while building upon the existing ASEAN Maritime Forum (AMF).

Sumathy Permal and Norsyihan shared ideas about the EAMF cooperation on ASEAN security, safety and environmental issues, and suggestions on the prospect for cooperation deemed suitable in the COVID-19 pandemic.
