The Society of Logisticians, Malaysia hosted the Annual Regional Conference on Logistics and Transport 2017 in Penang on the 24th November 2017. It was attended by academicians, practitioners in the related fields of logistics and supply chain management as well as students from local universities and colleges.

Speakers and Committee Members at the conference

MIMA researcher, Cdr Ang Chin Hup (R) presented a paper on the Maritime Industry in Malaysia: Its Current Status and Future Prospects. He highlighted the significant contribution of maritime industry to the nation’s economy in terms of GDP’s growth and creation of employment. He elaborated on the current challenges faced by the industry and its future prospects in particular in the logistics sector. He also noted the various master plans and strategies initiated by the government in boosting the industry.

Other papers presented at the conference included The Impact of Pollution on Coastal & Marine Ecosystems, Flood Mitigation: Managing State Wide Disaster, Fire Prevention: Effective Safety Measures and High Impact Technology on the Supply Chain Management.  As a research institute, MIMA is pleased to share knowledge with members of such professional bodies and students of local institutions on maritime economics issues. MIMA looks forward to collaborate with these institutions on maritime issues.
