Plastics are the most common form of beach litter, which is sometimes found in small fragments known as microplastics. MIMA’s study on the “Management of Coastal Litter” proposed the Clean Coast Index (CCI) as a tool to monitor and measure the cleanliness of coastal areas in Malaysia, using plastics as an indicator. The session provided participants better understanding of the method used to measure beach cleanliness and to develop new experimental opportunities for the management of coastal litter.
