INTRODUCTION TO MIMA SEA VIEWS

rc2As a maritime policy research institute, one core function of the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) is the dissemination of knowledge. Our resources towards this end range from policy research, journal papers, books, and consultancy, to name a few. Sea Views is one of our most immediate resources, as it addresses current issues that require attention from industry players as well as the general public.

Sea Views provides a platform for our researchers to articulate their views on issues and developments in the maritime field. Given the vast nature of this field, contributions to Sea Views marshals the efforts of our five research centres – the Centre for Ocean Law and Policy, the Centre for Maritime Security and Diplomacy, the Centre for Coastal and Marine Environment, the Centre for Maritime Economics and Industries, and the Centre for Straits of Malacca.

Sectors within the maritime field are often interconnected. Taking this into account, MIMA strives to provide focus and expertise from each sector via these five research centres and their contributions to Sea Views.

Readers may expect discussions on recent maritime issues backed by analysis or research in Sea Views. MIMA deems it important for not just industry players, but also the public, to have access to discussion points on the developments in the sectors of maritime. Addressing these issues in Sea Views allows for immediacy which may otherwise be difficult in full-fledged research. It also lends a more flexible structure to the thought processes that can further contribute to our policy research, education, and public awareness programmes in the future.

Note that each contribution is the view of the author and does not represent MIMA’s official stand on the matters discussed. Readers are welcome to reproduce the contents of Sea Views with appropriate attribution to the author(s).
